80th Indian Market in Santa Fe 2001
Just some shots of the crowd, booths, streets and the beautiful old St. Francis Church
on the east side of the Plaza. The weather was about 75-80 degrees farenheit, with
clear blue skies both days.
Lillian and Marvin Lovato (Lillian shown above) from Santo Domingo won a Second Place Red Ribbon for a nine-strand traditional
olive shell heishe necklace. That necklace sold first thing in the morning before we were able to visit their booth.
They have been showing at Indian Market for over 25 years.
Alfred (Bo) Lomaquahu from Hopi won a Third Place Ribbon for a large, gorgeous kachina. Here he
is showing a Sunface Kachina rising up from the clouds over the earth playing the flute and sending
blessings downward. We brought this one home
for ourselves. Bo won Best of Show at Indian Market three years ago for a similar (but
different) large Sunface Kachina over Mother Earth.
Felino Eriacho from Zuni won a ribbon for his Mudhead'Kachina. He also carved a very large bear over a pueblo that he's proudly showing to a visitor. His fetishes were in the case under his kachinas. Felino has been showing
at Indian Market for many years for his kachinas.
Just a small sampling of the variety of art shown. World-famous
goldsmiths, painters, sculptors, weavers, potters and jewelers were there, showing their finest work.
