Oscar Cellicion Rainbow Man Zuni Inlay Necklace |
This magnificent Rainbow Man necklace was commissioned directly from Oscar Cellicion, Zuni, by a New England collector in 1984. Oscar was more than 80 years old at the time. A member of the famous Cellicion family, known for their inlay work. Oscar's work is considered among the finest of Zuni inlay work; some believe it to be the best of all Zuni inlay work and this necklace adds to that opinion. Producing this necklace took Oscar about six months as he was heavily involved in traditional Zuni religious events, especially the Shalako ceremony (held early every December). The necklace has eleven Rainbow Man Kachinas, which is a Zuni symbol for the supreme kachina spirit of harmony and beauty; a sign of the grace of the Great Mystery that gives man the privilege of walking this earth. The sterling silver and lapidary work are flawless. The stones include turquoise, black jet, both white and gold mother of pearl shell and Mediterranean coral. Strung on strong foxtail chain with...

Alfred Lomaquahu Hopi Sun God Kachina |
This thought-provoking, museum-quality kachina was created by award-winning Hopi artist Alfred "Bo" Lomahquahu. "Dawa," the Sun God Kachina, is rising up from the clouds surrounding our Mother Earth playing his flute, sending blessings of peace and harmony down to us. Carved in 2001, Alfred says regarding this kachina "the Sun God is a Father to us, through his light and warmth we have life. He is there watching over us playing songs and giving prayers for all Life." The Sun God Kachina (also known as the Sunface Kachina in Zuni) is a powerful symbol of peace and positive energy. He is the "Bringer of New Life and New Beginnings," which is why you see Sunface symbols on Pueblo jewelry, pottery and fetishes. Added to our collection right before 9/11/, this Kachina represents the bringing together of us as brothers and sisters on one very small planet. He asks us to have respect for one another and give thanks for all our blessings. The size of...

Alfred Lomaquahu Hano Mana Hopi Kachina |
This exquisite, sensitive kachina was carved by multi award-winning artist Alfred "Bo" Lomahquahu of the Hopi Pueblo in Arizona over six years ago. She's been in our private collection up until now. Alfred never carves two kachinas the same way, so she's unique. She's over 15" tall and carved from ONE piece of cottonwood root (which resists cracking) except for the feather in her hair, the lilypads at her feet and the bird in her hand. Hano Mana appears in the Bean Dance on Second Mesa and in the Water Serpent Ceremony on First Mesa. She almost always has a turquoise face and a basket of corn, usually in her hands. This kachina (or katsina) is very different from the "traditional style" of Hopi Kachina. The most distinctive feature of the modern contemporary dolls is their attention to detail: in this piece you can see the individual strands of her hair, her bracelets and turquoise necklace, the small wrinkle at her underarm and threads on her robe just to...
